F.W. Chapman Solutions is an inter­dis­ci­plinary consulting firm and independent research laboratory owned and operated by Frederick W. Chapman, PhD. Here is a brief overview of the company and a short biography of the owner.

The Company

F.W. Chapman Solutions blends modern web and database technologies with artistic photog­raphy and design to help small businesses establish a compelling online presence. The company also draws upon deep expertise in mathe­matics and computing to create innov­ative solutions to scien­tific problems which arise in technical applications.

In addition to providing an integrated suite of profes­sional services on a freelance basis, the consulting firm develops its own line of technical training courses to sell online. To complement the firm’s profes­sional services and commercial products, the company lab conducts independent scien­tific research for scholarly publi­cation and future commercialization.

The Owner

Dr. Frederick W. Chapman is a university professor turned entre­preneur — a freelance technical consultant and independent research scientist with decades of experience solving complex problems in a wide range of disci­plines. He earned his doctorate (PhD) and master’s degree (MMath) in applied mathe­matics from the University of Waterloo and has a bachelor’s degree (BA) in mathe­matics from Lehigh University. His postdoc­toral and graduate super­visor was Prof. Keith O. Geddes (co-inventor of the Maple computer algebra system). Dr. Chapman has a strong background in computer science and is partic­u­larly inter­ested in mathe­matical software, relational database systems, and digital image processing.

Dr. Chapman is a prolific inventor of new mathe­matics. In his doctoral thesis alone, he intro­duced a dozen original inven­tions in half a dozen different areas of mathe­matics. The center­piece of the thesis is a vast new family of infinite series expan­sions for multi­variate functions, which Dr. Chapman named “Geddes series” in honor of his thesis super­visor. Dr. Chapman has invented over 100,000 different types of Geddes series and has named each type after the mathe­mati­cians whose historic contri­bu­tions made this work possible (e.g., Geddes-Newton-Laplace series). This is a major paradigm shift, and it unlocks a world of new possi­bil­ities. In addition to his theoretical work, Dr. Chapman is very inter­ested in imple­menting new mathe­matical methods on the computer to facil­itate advanced problem-solving in appli­ca­tions. He is an expert on the Maple computer algebra system, which he has used exten­sively for over twenty years and taught to faculty and students at several well-known universities.

Dr. Chapman is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and its Special Interest Group in Symbolic and Algebraic Manipulation (SIGSAM). Before founding F.W. Chapman Solutions, Dr. Chapman was a visiting professor of computer science at Drexel University and a postdoc­toral research fellow in the School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. As an adjunct professor of applied mathe­matics at the University of Waterloo, Dr. Chapman co-supervised the master’s thesis of Orlando A. Carvajal — the first in a series of Waterloo computer science theses devoted to imple­menting new appli­ca­tions of the mathe­matical methods invented by Dr. Chapman. In addition to his many years of academic training and all his research and teaching experience, Dr. Chapman has over ten years of full-time profes­sional experience as an infor­mation technology consultant, computer software trainer, and database appli­cation developer.
